How to delete cookies in Internet Explorer | Versions 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11
There are several reasons why you may wish to delete the cookies currently stored by Internet Explorer. Privacy being the main reason, especially if on a shared computer.
This guide will show you how to delete the cookies stored within Internet Explorer versions 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
Internet Explorer Version 11
The latest version of Internet Explorer involves slightly different steps for Windows 7 users, if you have Windows 7 installed then follow the steps for version 10
in the section below.
For Windows 8.0/8.1 version 11 users, follow these instructions:
- Using a mouse
- Hover the mouse at the bottom-right of your screen.
- Move the mouse up and click on Settings.
- Click on Options, then click Select under History.
- Place a tick in the Cookies checkbox and click Delete.
- Using touchscreen
- Swipe to the left from the right-edge of the screen.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap on Options, then tap on Select under History.
- Tap to place a tick in the Cookies checkbox and tap Delete.
Internet Explorer Version 9 and 10
Both versions 9 and 10 (and version 11 running on Windows 7) have near identical methods for removing the cookies depending on which operating system is installed.
First click on the tools icon:
Hover your mouse over Safety
, and then click on Delete browsing history
, see below:
You will now see the dialogue box with various options, as we are removing cookies place a tick in the box next to Cookies and website data (in version 10 running on Windows 7, the box will be labelled Cookies and website data
), then simply click the DELETE button.
Internet Explorer Version 8
Version 8 provides a nice quick way of deleting the stored cookies from your computer.
There are 2 slight variations of Version 8 depending on your operating system. We have included instructions for both variations (A and B) below.
Delete cookies in V8 variant A:
Either click on TOOLS
and then on Delete Browsing History.
You will now see the Delete Browsing History dialogue box, there a numerous options but the part we are interested in is Cookies. Ensure the Cookies box is ticked and then simply click on the delete button.
Delete cookies in V8 variant B:
Click on TOOLS
and then on Internet Options
Click on the DELETE button under Browsing history (see below).
Now click on the Delete cookies button and finally click Yes to confirm.
Internet Explorer Version 7
In order to delete the cookies in version 7 we need to open the Internet Options
dialogue box. To do this, first click on TOOLS
at the top of the screen and then on INTERNET OPTIONS
as shown in the screenshot below:
This will open the Internet Options
dialogue box, as shown below in fig 1.2
Next, click on the Delete Cookies
button, as pointed out in the image above.
You will be prompted to confirm the cookie deletion (see image above), simply click the OK
button to remove the cookies.
