I am looking for some information on overclocking my system. I do not know the specifics but would like to learn how to speed up my system over and above the factory specs. Let me know what info you need to get started. Thanks

Hi,

I am not a fan of overclocking. The manufacturers obviously do not recommend it but it can increase the speed of your system for verylittle outlay.

There are downsides too.

Additional heat to cope with.
It can cause system crashes.
It does push CPU / RAM beyond the boundries for which they were designed and in so doing can shorten their life.

There is a very good article here:

My experience of Gateway machines is that the BIOS is less than basic - this could be a hinderance.

If you want more speed out of your system the easiest option is to upgrade the RAM .

OK, no overclocking. I trust your judgement on this matter. I have received no bad advise or direction from this site and will go with your recommendation. Thanks for being honest.

You are welcome Smile

The link I gave you was a "simple" guide to overclocking and it went into some detail - it is worth reading.

I still maintain that if you want your system to run faster - add more RAM up to the max that your motherboard can support. I know this is the more expensive option but it is virtually foolproof Smile
