Download is used to describe when a file is transferred, or a file that is available to transfer, from a remote machine to a local machine using a communications link. For instance, when you download a file from a website you are transferring the data from the remote machine, in this case the webserver, to the local machine, your PC.

The speed of the download will depend on what connection exists between the two machines, and the size of the file to be transferred.
