AVI has become a very popular format on the Internet for video distribution, the relatively small filesize means fast download times, and the quality of the reproduction is reasonable.

To watch an AVI file on your computer you will need what is referred to as a CODEC (COmpressor-DECompresor), this will allow your operating system to play the file. You can find the latest DivX CODEC here.

The AVI format has become so popular, that most modern DVD players and Blue-Ray players support the AVI file format, usually through the use of the DivX codec.
